PROJECT DETAILS

BACKGROUND

An element of chance and an air of tension draw Heather Knight and her colleagues at Syyn Labs to construct Rube Goldberg devices. PopTech followed Heather – with bated breath – to get her take on the contraption that they created to kick off PopTech 2010.

BRIEF

When PopTech decided to open its conference with a Rube Goldberg contraption, we produced a documentary short that illustrated the machine’s humble origins and then shared the action via social media to give livestream viewers at home a look at the journey.

CONCEPT

We wanted to create a whimsical yet intimate portrait of Heather Knight, and what better way than by following her with a handheld camera as she toured mid-coast Maine’s junk shops looking for materials for the Rube Goldberg device?

RESPONSE

This video not only received positive engagement on PopTech’s social channels, but it was also leveraged in a marketing capacity to demonstrate to potential conference ticket buyers the out-of- the-ordinary, unforgettable experience they could expect at PopTech.
