PROJECT DETAILS

BACKGROUND

Trust, community, and money laundering (literally) on the Gulf Coast following Katrina helped Gulfport, MS bounce back. In the spirit of the PopTech 2012 conference theme of resilience, we were drawn to this epic story of rebuilding.

BRIEF

In partnership with PwC, PopTech set out to document real-life examples of enterprise resilience around the world. This short documentary above, based on the true story from Andrew Zolli and Ann Marie Healy’s book, Resilience: Why Things Bounce Back, is the first of fourteen videos in the series.

CONCEPT

To illustrate a story that happened in the past and to bring to life the magical aspect of this story, we created interpretive b-roll instead of working solely with traditional re-enactment or archival footage.

RESPONSE

This short documentary was shown on the PopTech stage and then picked up widely through social media, including on Dan Ariely’s blog. Two years later, on the 10th anniversary of the storm, Hancock Bank continued to share the video, posting it on their new website and sharing it at commemoration events.
