PROJECT DETAILS

BACKGROUND

For many of the world’s poorest communities, the adverse effects of climate change impact women and girls the hardest. In advance of a PopTech event in Nairobi that focused on climate resilience and gender, PopTech partnered with the Red Crescent to produce a game that would introduce the idea of insuring crops to smallholder farmers whose livelihoods are being influenced by climate change. In order to spread the message, we produced this short film, the first of two films in the series.

BRIEF

Our task was to create an introductory video for the game that would introduce what it does and help the Red Crescent to fundraise and spread the message.

CONCEPT

The piece had to be made on a small budget, so we created a concept built around original interviews with the two game designers, layered with footage shot in field while we were already in Nairobi to document the PopTech event.

RESPONSE

The Red Crescent has received ample coverage of these videos, and the videos in turn have allowed Red Crescent to scale this game by making it possible for others to use it. Currently, the Red Crescent, UN agencies and a multitude of other organizations are using the game to scale up their work promoting awareness on these complex issues by making their work more participatory.
